Hi, my name is Layla Samadi. I am ten years old and live in Tehran, the capital of Iran. I live with Mama, Baba and my little brother. I go to primary school and want to be an engineer when I grow up, like Mama.

Baba and Uncle Hashim work at the Petroleum University of Technology. On Sunday night they were talking very quietly in the living room and looked angry even though Baba doesn’t usually get angry with anyone. Mama told me later, it was because women had been banned from some university courses.
